Whats the intention?

After having feedback from Ian, he explained it would be a good idea to write down a timeline of the piece so far. This was to acknowledge what each section is about and the intention behind it. Therefore we took time out of the rehearsal to clarify this as a group.

When going through each section it became clear the journey all characters go on throughout the piece. For example, we see how my character becomes fixated by Chloe and by keeping her sane from the light, starts to become obsessed with my own compulsion. This then makes sense for the organisation section. However, when I originally left Kara on stage the transition didn’t flow. Before we did this task, it was clear the transition from my section to Kara’s solo didn’t make sense, so we therefore added in some organisation movement that sets Kara up. Through this task, we also worked out why Daria is resisting and fighting this urge of obsession. Previously Daria would start to tense up for no reason, however now we leave her on stage purposely to make her feel isolated whilst the rest of the group walk off. This gives Daria a purpose for the next section and makes the section run smoother in terms of characterisation.

Doing this task has now made us clear on what each part of the story is about. As an outside eye, I can start to see identities developing within the choreography. I can also see relationships form through spacing and gesture on stage. As a result, we have tried to work on this throughout the week. For example, the only clear relationship we see on stage is myself and Chloe at the beginning of the piece. Yet, small looks by accident have been choreographed between Daria and Kara that we are now going to make a thing in our choreography. This could be a potential start for the ending of our piece.
